The reason why we call them split ends, it's because we see the white dry tip at the end of the length. In reality split ends occur allover the hair length and it can happen from roots to ends do to cuticle damage. Any type of dehydration can produce split ends. We see them at the tip because they open like a flower and the only way to fix the problem is to mend them by hydrating the hair with a good water base moisturizer, NOT OIL BASE. So to recap, protein for strength, water to hydrate omega-3 to make the hair more playable. Oil is only for cooking.
