Marisa cancelled on doing the hair for my wedding 8 days before the big day.
Marisa was good at getting my hair back to a healthy state and giving me very small trims to help my hair grow longer, but she never seemed to want to handle my requests for hi-lights or lighter hair. I don't know if she's just not knowledge enough about it or just doesn't like to do it?
While she was away on her honeymoon, the other hairdresser I saw chopped off 3 inches of the hair I was trying to grow back (when I told her to only do a very small trim).
I continued to travel in to see Marisa for a total of 6 years, even after I moved over an hour away. She had agreed to do the hair for my upcoming wedding, and after 2 years in the making, she cancelled on me 8 days before the actual wedding day. She didn't like the early morning start time, yet at no time in the 2 years prior, did she ever inform me of this issue. She had a young child a year prior and suddenly tells me that she couldn't come out before 8 am. I had sent her emails with time details for several months prior to the wedding day, and she never replied with her concerns. When I asked her why she didn't inform me sooner....I would have appreciated knowing 8 weeks prior instead of 8 days! Her reply was "I was trying to be nice". I would have expected honesty over nicety.
She kept telling me that she was not cancelling on me, she just couldn't come out that early....but I told her, if she couldn't come out that early, I had to find someone else! Our photos had to be done prior to the ceremony as there was not enough time afterward.
Also, when I had tried to get a contract from her in the beginning, she said "oh don't worry about it".
Aside from all of this, after sending her various hair photos to her (as per her request) so that we could try them prior to the big day....she always did the same style, the same way, with only a difference in the part. I also had to do research to learn what to do to have the style hold for many hours as I was planning on wearing my hair down and did not want it to flop. Marisa said that she didn't like "stiff" hair and she never wanted to try anything. Finally, she did agree to try what I had learned through YouTube....(for my engagement photos) and gee....it worked!
Marisa does not seem to be up to date on what works, or how to get the style you want, nor does she seem to be comfortable with doing things differently. The hi-lights that I kept asking her for, she put off for 2 years, until right before the wedding, and they were so very subtle, that no one could even see a difference.
I would never trust her to do your wedding or any other special event day, especially if you don't want your hair to flop.
She even shared with- me the story of a bride's hair that she did, and by the time she was finished curling the hair, the first part had flopped. She told me that she charged that bride an extra $100 to re-curl the hair she had just curled....and the bride paid. She implied that "it's just the way the hair is", but really?....it's because she didn't know what products or procedure to use. It should have stayed the first time.
The receptionist at this salon is AMAZING!!! She deserved a big raise!
