Definitely the worst haircut experience of my life. I didn't want to say anything or be rude/unnecessarily vocal about my negative experience, but it's a month later now, my hair still hasn't grown back the right way for me to get the terrible job fixed (that I paid almost $50 for), and the lack of professionalism/proper protocol led to a minor rash on my upper neck/lower head (went away after a week or so but the scab hasn't quite healed yet) a well as a more severe rash/sore on the top of my scalp (still there), for which I'm going to the hospital Monday to get it checked out (I tried to give it time to go away, but it hasn't). What happened in regard to the latter was Katerina (DO NOT book with Katerina, or at least do so at your own peril and consider yourself warned) egregiously dropped the scissors on the disgusting floor, picked them up, we both looked at them knowing they should be cleaned (or at least I knew they should but I'm no barber), then just kept on cavalierly cutting my hair and poking into/nipping at my neck/scalp with contaminated implements sans saying anything about it, pretending it never happened when we both very obviously saw it. I was honestly too shocked to say anything about the blatantly unprofessional protocol, but didn't think it would be a big deal and tried to keep quiet so as not to adversely impact a local business or someone else's livelihood, which I have nothing but respect for (do you, make a living!). However, I wish I had said something sooner and hope I can spare anyone else the same abhorrent experience. Aside from the filthy implements and business practices employed, the haircut itself was not too complicated (it's called a "disconnected quiff" if you want to Google it) and I'd actually gone to Supercuts previously, where they absolutely nailed it spot-on (kudos to Supercuts!) but Katerina couldn't figure it out, even admitting to taking hours "when first starting out" to cut guys' hair. It took over 2 hours for me to get the worst haircut of my life (and yes, that's including my embarrassing childhood bowl cuts, which were better than this one), and, upon my direct verbal request, Katerina refused to use clippers to get the necessary fade on the sides, saying using clippers went against "what was taught in school". Clearly, proper professionalism, protocol, customer service, and sanitary practices were NOT taught at that school. And clearly, those same values are not very highly valued at Carlton, based on the "talent" they hire and allow to service clients. Since I'm still dealing with the negative consequences of my inaugural trip to Carlton a month later, I felt I had to say something about it. One positive thing I can say about Carlton to not be all negative is that customer service was OK when I called to get my money back a few days later. They did ask me if I'd like to come back in to allow them to fix the awful $50 haircut for free, but I'd lost all trust in the establishment already, so I respectfully declined at that point. Book at your own peril (just NOT Katerina) or get a better haircut from Supercuts: your choice!
