I was a student at J.Jays worst experience ever! Jay would go in the classroom and called women ugly and that they had kitchen hair. Also, he was never there to teach a class. We would have to watch a video of him teaching from 8am- till close to 12pm. How were we going to ask questions. Hell, we were falling asleep!! Anyway enough of that. I wouldn’t recommend this school to anyone. Not even my worse enemy.....

I have been a client for over 12 years. Needless to say, I have always been pleased with the complete experience ... friendly, knowlegable staff, immaculate facilities. My stylist for all these years has been Angelle ... truly in a class by herself. You won't be disappointed.

As someone who was educated by Jay, back in the '80's, I knew that the school would teach the basic fundamentals that I needed for a trim. I only wanted the flat cut, as I would go home and take care of the round. (Hairdresser's would understand). Lauren did a great job, and allowed me to walk her through it. She just graduated, and I wish her great success!

BEWARE! I took my 9 year old daughter to the salon (not the beauty school) in Lakeview to get a trim on her straight, bobbed hair cut. We live in the neighborhood and I thought it would be nice to find a salon nearby. I will NEVER go to this salon again. They charged me $45 for her haircut. Online, the price for a cut is $20+ so I assumed she would be on the low end as a child and straight bobbed hair. Well, the haircut was $22 but they added $16 for a style (she was blow dried - so do you have to leave with wet hair?), $2 for the shampoo (so should you come with wet hair?) and then $5 for "Items Used" (it appears they add a surcharge for the hourly workers who work there). I was astounded. We will never go back and you should ask for the total price before you get any service done there.

Candice Schmidt, at the salon, is a true gem, always smiling while dealing with my long, thick, unruly hair. She not only cuts my hair, but also styles it for any special occasions and it always comes out beautiful.
