I would give this a "0"/negative star if I could.
I heard of this salon from a coworker and decided to give it a try since I desperately needed a trim on my natural hair. I called, left a message and promptly received a returned phone call & booked my appointment for the weekend after July 4th at 11am. The day of my appointment, I arrived on time and literally sat on a chair waiting for 30 mins for my stylist to tend to me. Unknowingly, the stylist/owner Lenny was there, just socializing with a client and didn't notice his 11a client had arrived. Since this was my first time, I had never met Lenny and didn't know that he was the one I was scheduled to meet with. I was on a time constraint, so I abruptly got up and left when I realized I was being ignored. I received a text from Lenny afterwards acknowledging his behavior, apologizing and he offered me a 50%off service if I revisited the salon again. I accepted the offer, giving him a 2nd chance after speaking with my coworker who's been to the salon and booked the appointment 2 weeks later. Big mistake!
I arrived for my appointment and all seemed fine. He examined my hair, did a "consultation" and asked me if I was ready to begin the trim/hair care service. Well after examining, I am extremely disappointed in the "trim". I unintentionally received an uneven hair cut, when I only wanted a trim when I booked my appointment. I distinctly remembered asking him if his method in (dry) trimming my hair dry would result in my hair being even all around and he said yes. Well, it is not. Not only is it not even, but my hair is tangled, matted, with jagged ends and in desperate need of correction. My 1 week old natural hair was never combed from root to tip to remove the shed hairs before cutting, washing and drying, so now, my hair is matted together at the roots. His (dry) trimming method is literally, pulling the entire length of the hair into a ponytail and cutting the ends. He then proceeds to pull the hair to form an afro shape and clips away at the hairs that stick out from the so called, "afro" shape. A total mess! When I got home, I spent the evening rewashing and examining my hair, to only accept that I will need to cut everything off and start from scratch with a twa. My bra strap length hair is ruined. The correction will result in more length taken from my hair, which is what I didn't want at this time. I should've trusted my gut when he explained his dry cut method and left before he clipped my hair.
I was hoping to like the hair care services and to find a hair home, however, I will not be returning to that salon. I should've never returned after my experience 2 weeks ago. Yesterday's service should've been free. Anjiru might've have existed for years, but the natural hair care knowledge is nonexistent. He is inexperienced and under educated on natural hair. He advised me that I didn't need conditioner after a shampoo, suggested I use LANOLIN on my hair, and to stop using natural oils. I paid $25 for my hair to literally get botched! I was referred to the salon by someone so I gave the salon/Lenny more chances than I should have. I am very disappointed, frustrated and angry at what I'm left with and am demanding a refund of my money.
To add more insult to injury, when I contacted him about the disappointment, he continued to go back and forth with me via text telling me that I should've told him about it so he could've cut more to fix it! I'm so done.
Please do not go to this salon if you want a knowledgeable natural hair care service!
