I had some box braids done 3 weeks ago. I should’ve known something was up when after my braids were completed, they were not tight. I had no pain at all and my edges were mostly left out, my edges are not as long as the rest of my hair. I was ok with this because I don’t want my hair pulling at the edge . I will tell you, they looked neat once I left the shop. However, 1 week later, some of the braids were so loose to the point that I could pull the braid off of my hair. I went back up there (to a different braider as I did not see the woman who originally braided my hair)to get my braids fixed (tightened) and the young lady asked me “Did you swimâ€? I told her no I had not gone swimming.. then she says “Well maybe it’s your hair typeâ€. Ladies, I’ve been natural for over 10 years, 4c hair. I’ve never paid $200 for box braids only to have them lose 1 week later and I wear braids quite a bit. Just thought I’d try a new place since I’m new to the area. Now it’s been about 3 weeks and it looks like I need to take my braids down. Which is frustrating because I wanted a longer term style. The lady also questioned me about the type of braid hair used... perhaps she thought that I brought my own braid hair in as opposed to using theirs. I told her that I used the hair they provided.
I have to admit that they did not to a GREAT job on my hair. The quality is just not what I’m accustomed to. I normally could get 6-7 weeks out of my braids.. even 8. I take good care of them., I tie them down at night. I wish I could post pictures of what I’m talking about. Now, they did say that I could come back and get my hair braided at a discounted price, but honestly I don’t want to fool with it. I paid and tipped quite a bit, had I known my braids would look like this after only 3 weeks, I wouldn’t have come. I’m just putting my experience out there for folks to read, so that one can make an informed decision.
