I should preface this review by saying that Beatrice is a one-woman show in her salon. I know how difficult this can be. HOWEVER. When I made the appointment, Beatrice let me know that it would take 4-5 hours for a custom color. I'm not a hairstylist, so I just went with the flow. I arrived for my appointment slightly late of my set time of 12pm. Upon arriving, I waited over an hour for my appointment to start because she was still with another client. She never apologized for making me wait. Fast forward to 1pm(ish) and she gets started on my hair, cutting it lightly, then bleaching it. Once the foil was complete, it had to set. It is now about 3:00pm. As I was sitting there, another client came in, one I assumed she knew because they started chatting. About an hour goes by as she does the other woman's foil. My neck hurts because of the weight of the foil on my head, and because I have to sit in a slouched position being too tall for the blower. Another woman comes into the salon, also obviously a friend. ANOTHER hour goes by, and my hair is still sitting in bleach. Finally she finishes with the other women and takes out my foil, rinses, and dyes my hair. Two hours my hair sat in what is essentially bleach. I'm no hairstylist, but I know enough to know this was WAY TOO LONG. At this point, it is about 5pm, the time that she should have been finished with my hair. She dyes it, and lets it set. I spend another 1.5 hours sitting, letting the dye soak into my hair while she works on her friends. It is now 7pm. I have been in the salon for 7 hours. Pissed off, I ask Beatrice when she will be done, to which she replies it would take another hour because she still has to rinse, dry, and cut my hair. All the while her daughter (sweetest thing in the world) - who also went to cosmetology school - sat on the couch instead of at least rinsing my hair. I impatiently wait while she does the other women's hair. She finally gets around to rinsing, blowing, and cutting mine. Finally finished, I wait another thirty minutes for her to, again, finish with the other women so that I can pay. When all was said and done, I was in the studio for EIGHT AND A HALF HOURS! I spent from 12pm-8:30pm in her salon!
At NO POINT did Beatrice tell me the appointment would take longer than she predicted, offer me anything to hold me over despite the fact that she was eating what her friends had brought her the whole time (I had to ask HER if there was any water for me to drink because my acid reflux was acting up from sitting in one position for so long and having nothing to eat, which she made me stand up and get despite the fact that she was literally, literally five feet away from it), nor did she apologize for making me wait, or even asked the other women to wait while she completed my hair. I was always the one waiting for them. I felt like an afterthought. And I don't even know if they had appointments!
To summarize:
1) My appointment started over an hour late.
2) My hair sat in bleach for two hours, and now is frizzy, dry, and irreparably damaged
2) Beatrice did TWO other women's hair at the same time she was doing mine, and they may not even have had appointments.
4) Never once did she inform me that the appointment was going to take longer than she initially told me.
5) Never once did she apologize for making me sit for 3.5 hours longer than she told me I was going to have to.
Hopefully this was an isolated incident and I just got the short end of the stick. But I would caution anyone trying to make an appointment to clear their schedules completely just in case and HOLD HER ACCOUNTABLE if she starts to ignore you or leaves product in your hair for too long.
