I walked in to Rail City Salon on Main Street today to see if they could squeeze me in as a walk-in. I waited at the counter for a couple of minutes content to scroll through my phone. All of the staff were in the back. A woman (clearly a stylist) came walking up to the counter with a phone on her shoulder, talking to someone. She glanced at me & asked what I wanted, not at all friendly. I felt like I was bothering her. I would have been more than happy to wait until you put the phone down. Strike 1.
I explained I'd like a walk-in spot if one was available. She's still on the phone & obviously wasn't pleased to be helping me, a stranger, a potential CLIENT. She wouldn't even make eye contact Strike 2
She's staring at the computer and says "no." At this point I don't know if she's speaking to me or whoever is on the phone. I said thanks & turned to leave. She calls back in the most snotty tone I've ever heard "you're welcome!"
Her tone implied I did something wrong for walking away. Strike 3.
How hard is it to be nice?
You don't have time for me today. So thanks anyway, but I'm going to check somewhere else to see if they can squeeze me in.....
Is that not appropriate. Should I have thrown her a $20 to get a better attitude. Should I have tipped her for doing her job? Quite poorly, I might add.
We as customers have plenty of salons to choose from in this town. Good ones. Elite, Everything Grows....This town is way too small for you to treat people like this. I wish you the best, but I will never step foot in your salon again. Unacceptable.
