I was appalled at the treatment I received at Betru Salon. Truly, this was an experience I will never forget. The complete lack of respect and regard of my time and person made me feel like a second-class citizen. My family almost didn't believe me when I told them of this.
I had an exciting Friday night planned, and I had called to schedule my appointment several days in advance. I had heard good things, and was excited to get my hair done. After successfully scheduling my appointment for early Friday afternoon, I was asked about how I had found Betru Salon, to which I answered that someone who had worked there earlier had referred me. After I said that, the employee scheduling my appointment left and came back awhile later, telling me that everything was set and that they were going to see me Friday.
I really didn’t think that anything was wrong and was looking forward to my appointment, so imagine my surprise when Friday morning, just 2 hours before my appointment, when I received a call from the salon informing me that I was not welcome there. To quote exactly, “We feel uncomfortable cutting your hair.” ...What?
I of course was shocked and wanted to know the reason. I was informed by the manager that they so suddenly and brashly canceled my appointment because they felt uncomfortable servicing someone who had been referred to them by that particular ex-employee. They didn’t even apologize for canceling so late, and for such a reason.
I don’t care what kind of issues they may have had with their old employee, I had no part in it and I do not see why I have to be so rudely cancelled upon simply because I had talked with that employee once in my life when I was cutting my hair at the different salon.
I would understand if they had outright told me from the start that I was not welcome in their salon, but no, they had waited 2 hours until my appointment to abruptly call me and inform me that my patronage as a customer was apparently loathsome even as an idea (not in those exact words, but that is the general impression I was getting).
I don’t know to what extent they can refuse me service, but associating with one of their ex-employees who they apparently have an issue with (I had no idea about any of this beforehand) is in no way a plausible reason. I do not know that such a policy exists or is acceptable literally anywhere else.
Refusal of service would only be warranted where the customer’s presence would somehow be distracting to the wellbeing, safety, or welfare of the other people in the business and the business itself, and I do not see how I fit in any of those categories. You have to treat all your customers equally under the law.
Betru Salon runs a bad business model, and I was treated without the least bit of common courtesy or respect towards my time and my feelings. I was left with just a couple of hours to hurriedly find another salon and get my hair done for my big night. I would never recommend this place to anyone I know.
I spoke with the manager and asked to speak with the owner. I was told that I would receive a call later in the day; I had still not received one. Apparently, customer satisfaction, as well as common respect and courtesy, are not high on the list of this salon’s priorities.
