I just came back from having tree braids done and I'm sad to say that I really don't like the result.
Alice is a nice lady but sometimes, it's just best to tell someone that you don't know how to do the hairstyle that they want.
As an African myself, I know hair braiding as I braided hair from the age of 9. I just never can do it on myself except for a few cornrows. And I went to her because it's for a big event and wanted my hair professionally braided.
When you do tree braids, you have to pull the extension out on both sides, from the top of the braid. That's what allows tree braids to be parted anywhere.
She pulls the extension out from the bottom of the braid, thus exposing the cornrow, and only from one side, which again exposes a big cornrow when parted. That is not tree Braiding.
Oh she also created a part that she "fixed" by crocheting, but the crochets started coming undone before I even reached home.
I drove 1.5 hrs, paid $150, and I'm very disappointed with the results and taking it all out. I took some pictures and I wish there is a way for me to post them here.
I can't judge her skills for other hairstyles, but from what I can tell looking at my hair, crochets and tree braids are not her strong suits.
