UPDATE: I spoke with Heather about the Brazilian Blowout and she was very apologetic and offered me a full refund. It was the absolute most pleasant experience I could imagine for hair not turning out right--she was empathetic and helpful. I'm changing my review to 4 stars because while my hair results were disappointing, Frederick's handled it super professionally.
However, the mystery of the failed Brazilian Blowout remains--Heather wasn't sure what it could be and it might just be that my hair is not the right type to respond to the treatment.
Original: My review is specific to the Brazilian Blowout at Frederick's. I had it done about two weeks ago by Heather and have been very disappointed with the results. My hair is normally wavy, so I didn't expect the Brazilian to make it straight—only less frizzy, an expectation that I confirmed was fair with Heather.
I followed Frederick's after care instructions exactly—though I noticed that they didn't wash out the Brazilian Blowout solution at the salon, which the official BB website says is standard procedure. Not sure why this didn't happen—either Frederick's is not actually offering the name-brand Brazilian or they're not following best practices. Either way, it made me a little nervous. After my first hair wash and air dry (no shampoo, only conditioner), my hair is back to being just as frizzy as before...if not more so. It feels a bit more dry than I'm used to and needless to say, I'm disappointed, since it was $230!
Finally, Heather was a professional and friendly stylist. However, she did scald my scalp a few times when she was blow drying and flat ironing in the BB solution—I think from steam. When I mentioned it, it still happened a few more times. Not sure if this is a skill issue, but maybe worth mentioning for anyone with a sensitive scalp. I've contacted Frederick's to ask them to fix it and will follow up if they respond.
