After looking for months for a salon, I tried Shiny and was finally happy with my haircut. Book in advance as they are usually very busy. They take credit but cash is preferred.

The shop owner is certainly a skilled hair designer, and the salon is clean and well-equipped. Fair enough. However, I wish I had a better experience with my haircut today. The barber seemed to be a little too confident with what my hairstyle "should look the best", and repeatedly ignored my requests not to cut the sides too short. I also wondered why he would charge a normal haircut $30, while reluctant to accept my credit card at first. Should I mention that he reminded me twice "tips are not included"? It is my genuine hope that this hair salon can offer better customer experience in the future.

Great haircuts, particularly if you're looking for someone who can cut Asian hair. You can just come with a photo of what you want and you'll be taken care of. Caveat that the people working here speak predominantly Chinese, and you'll want to make a reservation beforehand.

This is the only place I trust in New Haven for hair cut. I have been going here for past three years or so, and have been happy every time. I used to be able to just walk-in when their business first started, but now you have to make an appointment well ahead (very reflective of their great service). The only complaint I have is that they have been raising price a bit too often recently (currently at $30 pre-tax for guys haircut).
