First time I went I was lectured and harassed about how I shouldn't thin my hair. The lady tried to get me to let her chop off my under layer of hair instead. I kindly refused and tried to explain that I need my hair thinned because I need to fit my thick hair in a cap, as a hospital employee. Upon checking it I was surprised when I was charged $10 more than what I have always been charged in the past. I let it slide, paid and even tipped as I always do. I went back to another hair stylist in my home town 2 hours away. She thinned my hair how I liked and didn't complain at all. And charged me $15 less than the lady at JCPenny. Sadly, unable to drive 2 hours for a haircut I decided to give JCpenny another chance yesterday. The lady who greeted me was very nice and was very prompt. She led me to a male behind the counter and said he can take care of me. I said I need a small trim and lots of thinning as I was beginning to get migraines from my thick hair. He seemed to "joke" about how I was going to be putting him to work and that he might have to charge extra. I laughed it off. And said yeah it's really unfortunate that I get neck pains and headaches because of the weight of my hair. He continued to "joke" rude remarks. I didn't realize how passive aggressive he was being. (My fault). I asked what the price range was. And he said he will have to START at $45 for a simple trim and thin. I didn't ask for a wash or a blow out. I was baffled. I said forget it. And left. I felt totally discriminated against in this setting since I have thick mid-length hair. Will never give this JCPenny another chance. So disappointed.
