Was waiting to see if color would improve before writing this review. I've had some bad hair color jobs in the past but never have I walked out of a salon looking worse than when I walked in. Went in for a blonde balyage a week ago. I only had one request... whatever color it comes out as, please make sure its a uniform look throughout and not patchy. Not only did I not end up with a balyage or even a uniform look, I ended up with scattered chunks of black, blonde and red hair and a straight band of copper across my head. She also fried my hair. This is not the salon you go to for a balyage. My hair stylist was nice HOWEVER, she seemed very rushed to get to her next client 1/2 through our appt. She also didn't seem confident in conpleting the look I wanted even walking away mid wash and then I never saw her again. Maybe she realized she messed up on my hair.. Be weary of a salon who charges 1/2 the price of its competitors. Not to mention, I was given 1/3 of the time it usually takes for a balyage. At least I got a nice hair cut which unfortunately doesn't cover up the bad dye job. Although when the woman who cut my hair asked me how I liked my color and I told her I wasn't happy, she said that the colorist did a better job than she could have which was not encouraging. I didn't expect her to fix it but that was an inappropriate response to a customer. Made an appointment to get my hair color corrected at a different salon. UPDATE: Since I didn't have time to get my hair at another Portland salon before my summer trip, I ended up getting it done at Trianon in Chicago which totally did a miracle job on my hair! The hairstylist there was so nervous because of the state of my hair but at the same time he was so knowledgeable and willing to do whatever it took to save my hair. It looks amazing. I'm so grateful.

Had a wonderful experience! Dana did a terrific job on my hair! She took a nice amount of time getting my cut just right. She went over what I wanted very thoroughly. I will definitely go back when im ready for a trim.

After years of being too intimidated to try salons I found Margaret at House of J Henry! She has been cutting my hair for two years now and I’m so happy every time! My cut is always what I wanted and she offers great special ‘Fusio’ moisturizing treatments that I absolutely love! My hair has been transformed from a naturally messy head of waves and frizz to a professional cut I am proud of every day. Thank you

Normally I don’t do this, unless something really made me mad. I had an appointment today. I did a consultation weeks back and made this appointment. I had a long process hair appointment considering I’m dying my hair vivid red and needs bleach since I’m a brunette. I did not get to go to my appointment because the girl called at 8am to let me know that unfortunately the girl took a “health day” and I could reschedule for tomorrow at 12:30. I called back and not only did they say they can’t do tomorrow, but they have to reschedule to next week. I think in my opinion that the people you canceled on should have priority . I was willing to drop money for it and it’s frustrating that they have no concept of other people work.

The color work at HJH is very good though very rushed but the punctuality and professionalism of this salon leaves a lot to be desired. Considering you’re expected to plonk down a credit card to book and pay for your metered parking in a very ticket happy part of town, I’m extremely disappointed by how late they are always running. No communication, no call beforehand to alert you, no one in the salon and saying “your stylist is running way late.” You’re just left to sit for 15, 20, 35 minutes wondering what the hell is going on. It’s also worth noting that the male, very heavyset owner is extremely snotty and unprofessional with his clients. For these reasons, I’m not going back.
