I had a really good experience at Lox today. Melanie gave me a sweet, tidy pixie cut that was exactly what I needed. She was a pleasure to talk to, and gave a killer shampoo. The building is also beautiful, and a pleasant environment to spend an hour or so. I also really like the "gender neutral" pricing based on short vs. long, rather than woman vs. man.

Lox has a great vibe, a sunny, happy location, and truly the most talented stylists in all of Knoxville. Bryn, the owner, is the head stylist and has a great eye for talent! The prices at Lox are very reasonable compared to those "spa" stylists in town, and your cut or color will simply be better. Park under the highway or on the Gay St. Viaduct, don't pay the nosebleed prices in the lot next door. Book your time using their handy online tool.

So, I booked my appointment in person. I was greeted by a super nice receptionist who answered all my questions. I told her and showed her exactly what I wanted and felt like she really understood what I was saying. She told me my appointment would cost $155. I thought that was pretty decent considering I have tons of hair and I was getting a cut and style. I came in for my appointment, and it took way longer than I thought it would. My appointment was at 4:45 and I didn’t leave until around 8:45 that evening. I do have a lot of hair and it was a very long process. My stylist did a great job and was very patient through the whole thing. However- I did have some issues. When the procedure was done, I went up to the counter to pay. (Keep in mind, I had budgeted for about $155, plus around a $20 tip) I took my debit card out of my wallet, set it on top of my wallet, went over to the mirror to look at my hair again, and while I did that, one of the ladies had taken my debit card off my wallet without asking, and scanned my card without telling me my total. To say I was mad was an understatement. You shouldn’t grab someone else’s debit card without permission, and you certainly should not run their card without telling them the total. They told me that the receipt printer wasn’t working- and that they would email me my receipt. Well, I never got it. So i went back in the next day to ask for it to be emailed. Once I received it, I was shocked. There was no communication from my stylist about how much she was charging me. She never told me she was toning my hair twice- and didn’t warn me about the price either. (Even though I was told on the day I made my appointment it would be $15. It was actually $20.) She charged me $45 dollars for a cut and style. She cut probably less than half an inch of my hair, and didn’t even blow dry it all the way- nor was it styled. So why was I charged the full $45? I’m very upset. I was never told about these charges. I ended up spending $235, when I budgeted for about $175. I am outraged with this pricing. I am sad I didn’t get a heads up about what I was being charged. My hair looks fine- but I will not be returning. I hope the owner of this salon sees this. There needs to be more clear communication with clients about the prices.

I don't recommend Jess, she charges more than she deserves. Although she puts $30 for a short haircut on the Lox website, she charges me $40 plus tips after the haircut without informing me during or before the service. For the free trim, she charges me $20 plus tips. Since she did a bit more work on trimming my hair, I kindly said I should perhaps pay you for the work. She then took me to the front desk, and I thought maybe she will charge me 5-10 bucks for this free trim but never expect 20 bucks. I don't feel the service worth that much and I was disappointed by her behavior. It is just my personal experience and opinion. Maybe I am overreacting to what she did and maybe it is common in the US. On the other side, Jade is a much better hair designer. She is honest and has a great personality. I booked Jess because Jade's schedule was full.

Always a great experience. This is the only salon that hasn't messed up my double crown
