This review is for Alter Ego Salon, Tim Muir that is located in Image Studios. I have been going to Alter Ego Salon for 7 years, the first five I was with Tim Muir but then he suddenly got “too busy” to book me and told me to just go with his assistant Tasia McGee. Please let me remind you, I was a VERY loyal customer to Tim and had actually sent a couple of friends his way because I thought he was so great and the only person in Utah who knew anything about ethnic hair.
On their old website it said that Tasia was about half the price to put a weave then Tim was because she had JUST gotten her license and had almost no experience compared to Tim. But I was loyal and still went in to see Tasia, she charged me FULL price, the same as Tim’s, just because and she took more than double the time it would normally take.
Not once did I ever go in without him bashing on his clients and talk about how he was going to not schedule them or refuse certain services because they looked at him the wrong way or “gave him the attitude”, when one assistant wasn’t in for the day he would talk very negatively about the absent assistant with the present assistant and all the clients in the salon. Which looking back now, I can only image what lies or stories he was telling others behind my back, he always has something negative to say about any and everyone and goes on tangents of stories and lies.
My sister went to him for about 3 years, until once he made her wait for 2 hours and then once she got into his seat refused to even wash her hair (which is included in all his fees) and quickly tightened her weave and made her leave. After this experience she came home and cried, needless to say she NEVER went back. After the pleading of all my family members to not go back and waste more money on him, I STILL chose to be loyal to Tim and his salon and kept going back.
Then convinced me to buy a different weave then I had been buying for years for a different texture and style, this weave was CHEAP, TANGLED EASILY, AND SHEDDED. He completely ripped me off. I ended up leaving Utah for a year and when I came back, obviously Tim did not have any time to schedule me so he sent me Tasia McGee’s way. She refused to help me know what weave I usually order with Tim (Hair that I ordered for 4 years and she had no idea or willing to help?) I ended up buying hair that they had on filed that I normally bought. I’ve had it in for three months, and he charged me a bucket load and it is horrible hair! HE HAS SCAMMED ME TWICE NOW ON HAIR AND PROBABLY IS BUYING ON CHINESE WEBSITES THAT AREN’T AUTHENTIC AND FOR $20 AND THEN CHARGING ME $500+ FOR THREE BUDNLES FOR AWFUL HAIR! I’ve ended up just taking it out because it was so bad and shed everywhere, $500+ out and I had to take it out anywhere.
She then continued to text me back and forth on what she could do, rescheduled me multiple times, and constantly had an attitude. I scheduled a time to come in to tell her the color I wanted her to dye my hair so she could dye it before my appointment. She said that’s great and she’ll have it done, the day before my appointment she tells me she did not have time to dye my hair and that she’ll have to dye it after she puts the weave into my head. I had never heard of this and was nervous it could dye my natural hair. I explained my concerns and even texted Tim (NO RESPONSE, BIG SURPRISE) and quickly Tasia refused to do it and said I had offended her. After Tasia proceeded to cancel my appointment less than 12 hours to the appointment. I quickly found someone who could put it in the next day, and she has been fabulous since! Tasia has left Tim’s studio to start her own career, I believe her salon is called Hair by Tasia, or something to that effect. I warn everyone who is considering following her or even giving her a try, DO NOT!
He isn’t the only person in Utah who knows how to ethnic hair and I promise if you do your research you will find someone better, kinder, and who actually has MORALS AND DOESN’T TALK BEHIND CLIENTS OR ASSISTANTS BACKS!
