I'd come to David Arnold Hair Salon a few years back for different services: haircut, dying, bleaching... with all of those services, I was satisfied. But the last time I'd gone there for an updo, they really impressed me with their expertise, speed and reasonable price. Tessa, the stylist assigned to my updo, was available for a free pre-appointment consultation where she took a look at the photo ideas and recommended the kind of style that would best suit my hair. On the day of the appointment, she worked quickly and fixed the updo very well -- it lasted me the entire day (albeit one strand fell out towards the end, but that wasn't a big deal). Tessa did a great job -- it was exactly what I wanted. As for the price, it will depend on the kind and complexity of service you're getting, so just make sure to call them ahead of time and possibly consult with a stylist for a quote. Overall though, I would say it's a reasonable price for great, quality service. The only downside is that you can't pay by card, so make sure to bring your checkbook or take out some cash before your visit. Whether you're looking for an everyday cut or want something fancier, I highly recommend this place.

All of my interactions with this business have been pleasant and professional, and I'm fond of my stylist Erica. I'm a little hair challenged (and make-up, and fashion, and shoes, etc) and I came in asking for help with my hair for my wedding. We had an initial consultation before scheduling my first appt, and I immediately felt comfortable here. My first time in, I had a cut, highlights and color done for my wedding that was scheduled for 2 weeks later. Leaving the salon, I was really happy with how everything turned out. But one wash later, things got ugly. My hair was bright orange, like carrot top! I was horrified, and worse, I knew that Ericka was away for the week. Still, I called back to see if I could get it fixed. I had a little trouble scheduling, but they worked me in within a few days. I began to explain how this wasn't what I'd asked for and how drastically it'd turned and Jason said, "say no more, I see what you mean and I can fix it." And he did! And he did it at no charge. My wedding was beautiful and I was happy with my hair on that day (which was 1 week after "the fix"), which was the most important thing. But, my hair slowly turned orange again over the few weeks that followed. By 5 weeks later (I had prescheduled the appt after the initial cut and color), we were back to blazing orange. I shrugged it off as festive for the Halloween season but was honestly disappointed that I was dealing with this again. When I went back, I asked that they just recolor everything, just a neutral straight brown, because I really didn't want to keep dealing with it turning orange after whatever glaze washed out. Ericka talked me into a warmer brown that had a bit of red still in it, and promised if it turned orange again she'd fix it and do exactly what I wanted (Just straight brown). The new color has been about a week and it seems to be holding up well. I'm cautiously optimistic that because it's permanent color and the highlights are now colored over, it won't fade and turn as drastically. I get that things happen, and there are far bigger things to be worried about than hair color. The people here are professional and kind and extended themselves to help fix a less than ideal situation, and I appreciate that because it was the right thing to do. It's for that reason, despite the difficulties with the color, I'm still giving 4 stars and I'm still a client at this salon.

This is not a critique of the people. My hair person was very pleasant to talk to. However, this place does not look like some place you'd spend $40 for a simple cut. That's $10 less than I used to spend in Center City for a cut with someone who's done hair for movies and photo shoots.Very unwelcoming visually. There was hair all over the floor, unframed mirrors and so on. My shampooer asked if I wanted conditioning, which is not something I've been asked before. Usually there's a policy about it so that the hair dresser has the best chance of working with the hair, right? Also didn't get all the soap off my face. Then the hair cut. I asked for a pretty simple thing--didn't even bring a picture, it was so basic. a few layers for shape, swept bangs, shoulder length. I said briefly that I have hair that acts a certain way and the hairdresser said "got it, I have curly hair, too" and so I let it go, thinking she must know! Well, the cut I got even she couldn't blow out to make it look good. Letting my natural hair take over, it's obvious that it's an asymmetrical cut with some pieces unintentionally different lengths and absolutely no chance of shaping it. Also, they don't take cards, but will let you send a check? No ATM on premises either, so go prepared with cash or check, if you go! And a picture! UPDATE: I got a nice call from the owner who explained that the condition I saw the salon was not normal, that they were experiencing unexpected call outs, so that should be remedied. Like I said, very pleasant people (who, I should also add for clarity refunded my money which was very professional of them), just a really bad cut in my view.

I have been using David Arnold hair salon for over 10 years. Everyone in the shop is warm and welcoming. They are involved in community initiatives, truly care about their reputation, and high level of customer service. However, the most important thing, is that I consistently get a great hair cut and color.
