Would not recommend for Black Natural hair- Avoid Silk Presses! Please avoid Salon/Ivana for hair needs- very greedy and dishonest!
Okay I tried to keep a positive attitude because this salon was the only thing available and near where I live after my original hair stylist couldn’t do my hair, but I can’t.
Since day one I haven’t been pleased with this look and have tried to hold it out hoping it’d get better overtime, but no! To be almost double charged the cost of the service (that I literally got about a month and a half for much less) for someone who’s less experienced on my hair evidently, more rushed work and less of a style- and, hair that hasn’t even lasted a week I’m annoyed!
Ivana did a suppose to be silk press on Saturday. Hair wasn’t even finished being dry whenever she started to straighten it. 1st sign of a rushed job. Hair looked puffy toward the near finishing product- had to request for her to cut my split ends- for her to even make the comment that it looks a lot better since the ends were cut (cause it wasn’t looking straight at all). You’d think she’d touch it up after cutting my split ends, but no! I tried to stay positive- she is a nice lady. However, honestly I feel like my birthday trip (which is why I got my hair done in the first place) has been ruined. I haven’t even been able to enjoy my hair since day one. Day 3 it was basically done for (this is with me keeping up maintenance- wrapping it, using my hair oil, and avoiding moisture). I’m sooo hurt right now.
Got charged $75 when I got it done at the same location with a different stylist nearly a month and a half ago. With a stylist who actually knows/knew how to do natural black hair, and even added/ knew to ask if I wanted silk curls. This time is was $120- like mentioned before literally almost ($10 short) of being double the price- for someone who made several remarks and showed explaining that they were less experienced and did a rushed job.
I could almost/ nearly cried writing this due to the extreme waste of money, ruined plans, and disappointment. This is suppose to be a salon that caters to all hair types- clearly that is not the truth. Silk presses typically last at least a week and a half up until 2 weeks with most hair stylist- 3 Days! 3 days- not even really. I’m sooo upset/ sad.
UPDATE: spoke with a worker to clarify $80 for the silk press, $40-45 for them to trim someone’s split ends- That’s Outrageous! For split ends?! Cutting someone’s hair from long to short (drastic cut) yes that’d make sense, but for a split end trim 😱.
Also, I was reached out to by an employee via FB from their page, who said to contact management, who still has yet to respond after 2, nearly 3 days.
Definitely wouldn’t recommend! Avoid at all cost, especially as a Woman of color- talk about taking advantage of people’s hard earned money. That worker tried to say some hairs don’t take to silk presses, but as someone (myself) who’s had multiple done by different hair stylist- this isn’t it! This had nothing to do with the hair not accepting it as much as it was about greed and a rushed job! Please avoid! And, if you’re trying to get a silk press (as a woman of color) I’d say your better off going to a different stylist.
